The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WI) has received information from the public regarding subjects making phone calls and posing to be deputies with our agency. These impersonators state that they are calling about a “legal matter” and speak in other generalities. They even have fraudulent voicemails setup in a specific deputy’s name. These calls are not legitimate, and Sheriff’s Investigators are currently looking into the source.

While our deputies routinely contact people by phone throughout the course of their duties, they are generally more specific as to who they are, why they are calling, who they want to speak with, and what information they are seeking. Our deputies will never request any type of payment or payment information for legal services (including warrant service) over the phone. If you receive a call from a deputy that you were not expecting or that does not make sense, we encourage you to first contact the Sheriff’s Office via our main number to verify the deputy’s authenticity. The Sheriff’s Office’s main number is 262-335-4378. This number can also be found on the County’s website under the ‘Departments’ tab entitled ‘Sheriff’s Office.’

IMPORTANT UPDATE: FoodShare members who have experienced food losses due to a recent power outage, replacement benefits are available.

A request for replacement typically must be made within ten (10) days from the date the food was lost, however the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has waived the 10-day reporting requirement for some members who lost food purchased through FoodShare benefits during the severe winter weather that occurred January 12-13, 2024.

This is for members who live in impacted counties and who lost food January 12-13. Those impacted counties are: Green Lake, Jefferson, Kenosha, Marquette, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Washington, Waukesha, and Waushara.
