Well, well, well — another day, another scam.

Several teammates here at the Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller’s Office have received text messages claiming they failed to pay an electronic toll, parking violation, or speeding violation.

We know that if our teammates are receiving these bogus notifications, many of you probably are too.

Here’s the first red flag: some of the teammates who received these so-called “violations” had not even been to Miami, where the violation supposedly occurred.

Please remember:

Do not pay.
Do not respond.
Do not click the QR code or any links.
Do not provide personal or payment information.

Scammers count on people reacting quickly out of fear or frustration. Take a moment, verify through official sources, and when in doubt, delete the message.

Please share this post and pass it along to help protect your friends, family, and neighbors.

Pasco Sheriff’s Office’s Economic Crimes Unit conducted an unlicensed contractor operation between Dec. 8-11, in the West Pasco County area, resulting in 17 arrests of individuals performing work without the necessary licenses. These subjects offered to complete contracting services to include, but not limited to, electrical, roofing, plumbing and air conditioning installation. During the investigation, it was determined these individuals did not have the proper licensing to complete any jobs that they quoted during this operation. Contractor fraud renders victims liable for damages and reduces resources in a contract breach. PSO urges citizens to review the tips below regarding unlicensed contractor scams to reduce their chances of victimization.

PSO shares our appreciation with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation for assisting in this important operation to ensure the safety of our citizens. Below is a list of individuals and businesses found operating without proper licensing. Verify a contractor’s license at www.MyFloridaLicense.com. If you suspect that you have been a victim of an unlicensed contractor, please call the Pasco Sheriff’s Non-Emergency Line at 727-847-8102, option 7.

Florida has passed a new law (HB 615) that allows landlords and tenants to send official rental-related notices via email, instead of just relying on physical mail or hand delivery. But there are some important rules and safeguards. This goes into affect July 1, 2025.

Here’s what this means for you:
1. Email Notices Are Optional
Both the landlord and tenant must agree in writing to communicate by email.

This agreement must be part of a signed form (called an addendum) to the rental agreement.

Each party must provide a valid email address.

Either party can choose not to participate in email delivery.

2. Changing Your Mind or Email Address
If you agreed to email notices, you can cancel that agreement at any time by giving written notice. This doesn’t invalidate emails already sent.

You can also change your email address by giving written notice to the other party.

3. When an Email Notice is Considered "Delivered"
A notice is considered delivered when the email is sent, unless it bounces back as undeliverable.

4. Record Keeping
Whoever sends the email must keep a copy of the notice and proof it was sent.

5. Email Notices Don’t Replace Other Legal Methods
This law doesn’t stop anyone from delivering notices using other legal methods like hand delivery or certified mail.
