DEADLY TESLA CRASH IN WATERGRASS

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. on May 26. An 87-year-old Wesley Chapel man was driving a Tesla Model Y eastbound on Overpass Road while the vehicle was operating in autopilot mode.

Troopers said that east of Infinite Drive, the Tesla departed the roadway, struck an electrical box, and continued traveling until it entered a nearby pond and became submerged.

The driver was rescued and transported to an area hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Our condolences to the family for this terrible loss.

We are proud to announce that Attorney Cornelius Demps has been appointed to serve on the Florida Bar’s Constitutional Judiciary Committee.

The Committee plays a vital role in evaluating judicial candidates and addressing matters affecting Florida’s constitutional judiciary. The Committee also creates and distributes accessible resources that help adults learn about the courts, the rule of law, the Constitution, and the roles of judges and juries. Through initiatives such as Benchmarks: Raising the Bar on Civics Education, and voter tools like The Florida Bar’s Voter Guide and Judicial Candidate Voluntary Self-Disclosure Statements, the Committee equips Floridians so that they can engage in meaningful civic participation and informed voting in judicial elections.

This appointment reflects Mr. Demps’ extensive experience in state and federal courts and his ongoing commitment to the integrity and independence of the judicial system.

With more than 15 years of courtroom and appellate experience, Mr. Demps continues to serve not only his clients, but the broader legal profession across Florida.
