Wow! 🤯 we had 110 people join us today at our FREE Lunch & Learn on Estate Planning with Transfer on Death Deeds, Lady Bird Deeds, Powers of Attorney, Wills Trusts and more!

Thank you to all who attended and thank you to Aurora House Foundation for putting together great community events like this and to Unidos Contra la Diabetes - RGV for hosting lunch for the first 65 people who attended! We weren’t sure what to expect but this turn out was amazing and we will likely put together another event in the spring for those who missed it.

Depending on your circumstances, there may be other estate planning tools worth considering, such as a Lady Bird Deed, properly drafted joint tenancy language, and powers of attorney to help protect your interests and plan for the unexpected.

And while a revocable trust isn’t always necessary, it’s still something I often recommend considering because the reality is, we can never predict what life may bring.

The most important thing? Don’t build your estate plan based on what you saw on TikTok. What works for someone else may not be the best option for you or your family.

Married? That doesn’t automatically mean your spouse inherits everything. 🏡⚖️

In Texas, when someone passes away without a valid will, intestate succession laws determine how their estate is distributed. And if you have children from a previous relationship or outside your current marriage, things can get a little more complicated.

For example, if you pass away without a will and have children who are not also your current spouse’s children, your half of the community property generally passes to your descendants rather than automatically going to your surviving spouse.

This is why estate planning is especially important for blended families.
