Our recent Journal edition included an article by FJA member Stephanie Cagnet Myron entitled, "Effective Strategies for Negotiation — A Conversation with a Mediator."

"As advocates, we pursue justice for our clients. As part of that pursuit, we often have to negotiate with the opposing party, their insurer, or their counsel. When we do so, we are primed to be biased in favor of our clients’ positions. For that reason, it’s often helpful to engage the services of a mediator who can impartially facilitate the negotiation.

I sat down with my husband, Adam Myron — who in addition to being an attorney, is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Mediator — in order to get his thoughts about why

Our attorney Adam Myron recently had the opportunity to serve as a co-chair and moderator of the ADR session of the Palm Beach County Bar Association’s Bench Bar Conference (“Expanding Your Perspective: How an Open Mind Can Lead to Better Negotiation”) along with fellow co-chair Damary Stokes and a wonderful panel of litigators and ADR professionals. During the session, Adam was also able to present on the topic of cognitive biases and how a better awareness of those biases can enhance negotiation outcomes. Special thanks to retired Judge Sarah Zabel, retired Judge Peter Blanc, Tami Augen-Rhodes, Sia Baker-Barnes, Gary Betensky, and Kim Nutter for their keen insights during the panel discussion!
