What makes for good fall color? Every wondered why some falls the colors are spectacular and others, just kind of - meh? Well Chief Meteorologist for WBTV in Charlotte, Al Conklin says its pretty scientific (don't you love science?) A 'good' color year for most means the reds are really 🍾 poppin' 🍾 Red leaf colors are caused by anthocyanins, red pigments stimulated by lots of late summer sunshine (2026 - check ☑) PLUS a rapid drop in temps (2026 - not so much) The reason? The sunny days allow trees to produce sugars, then the sudden drop in temps trap the sugars in the leaves which causes bright reds. So cross your fingers, say a prayer, or do a cold weather dance, and maybe the temps will drop enough to get us some 🔥 HOT 🔥 reds this year!
