Some materials are selected for appearance. Others transform the way a room feels. Natural stone, artisan plaster, warm wood, aged metals, and tactile wall finishes introduce depth that changes subtly as light moves throughout the day.
That sensory quality is becoming increasingly important in current interiors. Recent design research shows rising interest in sandstone, Venetian plaster, linen wallcoverings, and other surfaces with visible dimension and character.
In elevated residences, these materials can be especially effective when used with restraint. A monolithic stone fireplace, hand-finished wall, or beautifully detailed millwork can carry an entire room.
The appeal is not simply visual. What material detail stands out to you?
