Hosting a Halloween party for teens this year? 🎃
Here’s what’s really at stake.
For the adult:
In Texas, making alcohol available to someone under 21 can be a Class A misdemeanor. If convicted, the consequences can include:
• Up to a $4,000 fine
• Up to 1 year in jail
• An automatic 180-day driver’s license suspension
If a minor drinks alcohol provided by an adult and, as a result, causes another person’s serious bodily injury or death, the adult could face a state jail felony. Adults may also face civil liability for damages in certain circumstances.
For the teen:
A minor caught drinking or possessing alcohol can face:
• A Class C misdemeanor
• A fine of up to $500
• Required alcohol awareness classes and community service
• Driver’s license suspension or denial
An alcohol-related offense can also create complications beyond the immediate penalties, depending on the circumstances and the teen’s record.
One party isn’t worth the risk. Keep it spooky, not illegal. 🎃
