I’m all for alternative energy, but instead of crushing trucking, train and home heating supply…causing higher prices for all things…why not incentive based policy making US made solar panels low cost if not free for the elderly and poor?

Contractor woes- I just had a consult with a contractor that went over his original price by over $40,000. The homeowner didn't sign any change orders saying they were too busy at work to find the time to sign it. Now the owner says that they aren't responsible. Of course the contractor never followed up with the homeowner either figuring why bother. This puts the contractor's entire profit at risk. Courts have determined that change orders called for in the contract protect both sides so that each side understands what the additional cost is for. The risk to the contractor is losing all the extra value of his work. The risk to the homeowner is being locked into a litigation over whether or not a change order was needed. Further the court can possibly award the value of his work or materials. Changes should be reduced to writing to protect all.

I had another consult where a person struggling financially drained their IRA and then came to see me. Retirement accounts are generally untouchable in bankruptcy unless you cash it in, then it is exposed. Please, if you are having trouble, come in and talk it over before you make big financial moves. You can do with the advice as you wish, but better to be fully informed than not.
