🔑 Your Key to Peace of Mind

Estate planning is self-care.

It means having the right people legally able to help you if something happens. It means your medical wishes are clear. It means your loved ones are not left in chaos, confusion, or court because there was no plan.

You do not need to be rich. You do not need to be old. You just need a plan that protects your voice, your wishes, and your peace of mind.

At Edwards Estate & Elder Law, we make estate and elder law planning feel personal, compassionate, and clear- not cold, confusing, or overwhelming.

Let our team help you take the first step.

May is Elder Law Month: a time to raise awareness about the importance of planning ahead, protecting your wishes, and helping families avoid crisis-driven decisions.

A recent News 12 Kane In Your Corner story shared a heartbreaking situation involving two brothers who say they were blocked from visiting their dying mother.

Our founder, Stacey Edwards, was mentioned in the article and spoke to an important lesson behind this family’s experience: when it comes to healthcare wishes, planning ahead matters.

Healthcare planning is not only about naming someone to make medical decisions for you. It is also about making your wishes clear while you still can, including who you trust, who should be involved, and what you would want if you were ever unable to speak for yourself.

These conversations can feel uncomfortable, but they can spare your loved ones confusion, conflict, and heartache during an already painful time.

At Edwards Estate & Elder Law, we believe planning ahead is one of the most loving things you can do for yourself and your family, and Elder Law Month is a meaningful reminder to start those conversations before a crisis happens.

If your healthcare documents are outdated, or if you do not have them in place yet, now is the time to start.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice made possible the freedoms, opportunities, and moments with loved ones that we often take for granted.

Today, we remember those who served with courage, honor, and selflessness, and we extend our gratitude to the families who carry their legacy forward.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day from all of us at Edwards Estate & Elder Law.

May is National Elder Law Month, and one of the biggest misconceptions we see is that estate planning is only about money or preparing for death.

It’s also about love.

It’s making things easier for the people you care about.
It’s putting your wishes in writing.
It’s creating clarity during difficult moments.
It’s helping protect your family, your voice, and your peace of mind.

At Edwards Estate & Elder Law, we help individuals and families plan ahead with compassion, guidance, and care through wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, Medicaid planning, and more.

Planning ahead is one of the greatest gifts you can leave the people you love.

This week, Stacey had the incredible honor of attending and sponsoring the PLAN/NJ Celebration of Abilities, an evening dedicated to advocacy, dignity, connection, and the extraordinary individuals who make this community so special đź’™

One of the most meaningful parts of the night was meeting the people whose stories, compassion, and dedication truly embody what this work is all about:

We met Patrice Jetter, a self-proclaimed “really cool woman who happens to have disabilities,” alongside her husband Gary Wickham, who beautifully reminded everyone that “the law can stop them from lots of things, but it can’t stop them from loving each other.” We also had the pleasure of meeting Michael Loberfeld, a man absolutely overflowing with charisma, whose journey “from silent to service” left a lasting impression.

The evening also highlighted the heart behind PLAN/NJ’s mission through leaders like Nancy Dilliplane, Director of Trust Services, and Kerry Lee, Director of Operations, who shared how this work can leave you constantly flip-flopping between “heartbreaking to heart-bursting with joy.”

It was especially meaningful to celebrate Shirley Whitenack, the tiny but mighty elder and disability lawyer whose retirement and recognition were so deeply deserved. Seeing her honored alongside her colleagues at Schenck Price and Crystal Wedt Edwards Esq. of Porzio Price was truly special.

And to our wonderful table mates, Beth and Doug Eppinger, thank you for your warmth and for being such proud supporters of PLAN/NJ.

We are deeply grateful to support organizations like PLAN/NJ that nurture dignity, independence, advocacy, and quality of life for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities and their families.

What an unforgettable evening đź’™

May is National Elder Law Month, and one of the most important reminders we can share is this:

“No writing = no rights.”

The right legal documents help make sure your wishes are known, your voice is honored, and the people you trust are able to step in when needed.

At Edwards Estate & Elder Law, we help families plan ahead with powers of attorney, healthcare directives, wills, trusts, Medicaid planning, guardianship guidance, and more.

A thoughtful plan can bring clarity, protection, and peace of mind, both for you and for the people you love.

Mothers are planners by nature. They care for everyone, think ahead for everyone, and carry more than most people ever realize.

This Mother’s Day is a reminder to celebrate the women who hold families together, and to make sure they’re protected and cared for too.

Whether it’s having important documents in place, making wishes clear, or simply creating peace of mind for the future, planning ahead is an act of love 💙

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Edwards Estate & Elder Law.

May is National Elder Law Month, and this month we’re talking about real issues that affect older adults and the families who love them, including scams.

When someone you love is scammed, the first response should not be shame. It should be support. Scammers are professionals. They know how to create urgency, build trust, and pressure people into acting quickly.

At Edwards Estate & Elder Law, we help families protect themselves before and after a crisis through estate planning, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, trusts, guardianship guidance, and crisis management.

If your family is worried about scams, vulnerability, or who would be able to step in during an emergency, now is the time to have a plan.
