Congratulations to Eric Brock, our WCL-BLSA American University Pre-Law Scholarship award winner!! Thanks to a generous donation, Eric will be receiving $1,000 to offset the cost of applying to law school (up from the original $890)! We hope you all will join us in recognizing Eric’s achievement at the Sylvania Woods Awards Ceremony this Friday, April 23 from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. (the registration link is in the bio).
Eric (class of 2022) is a junior at American University, majoring in Political Science. Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, he is a member of the National Political Science Honor Society (Pi Sigma Alpha). He sets a phenomenal example as the oldest in his family by being a first-generation college student, the first in his family to apply to law school, and the first to leave his neighborhood, let alone his home state.
Eric remarked that he "had one ethos throughout [his] undergraduate journey": to "challenge the issues of the institution . . . so that [his] sister or brother would be able to attend such an institution and feel safe. That they would be able to attend and feel heard. . . . That they would be expected to achieve all they dreamed."
"That is the burden I carry into this profession," he declares. "And that is the burden I am both blessed, and prepared, to take." We are so proud of Eric and his accomplishment, and we know he will be a *successful* Black legal professional!
