What Makes Us One?
Jones Day's values—including a shared dedication to client service, to each other, and to the communities we work and live in—are the driving force behind our ability to operate as One Firm Worldwide.
Look no further than our role in building the Internet's address book, the Domain Name System (DNS), through the creation of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). When University of Southern California professor Jon Postel reached out to law firms in 1998 for help in creating ICANN, Jones Day was the only firm to respond.
Partners Joe Sims, Jeff LeVee, and Mike Weinberg stepped up—pro bono—to help bring ICANN to life, drafting its founding documents and guiding it through its earliest and most uncertain days. That commitment has endured for more than 25 years. From defending ICANN against every legal challenge to its existence, to advising on the landmark agreement that secured its independence, Jones Day has been with ICANN since before the beginning. In doing so, the Firm has helped safeguard the stability and security of the Internet, the most powerful force for communications and commerce the world has ever known.
