A VA Sheriff has come up with a new way to ease prison overcrowding -- he simply hired a private contractor to construct three buildings in the Chesapeake area, allegedly without obtaining proper permits, public input, nor prior consent from the Board of Corrections. If this idea catches on with other "enterprising" sheriffs, a jail in your neighborhood may be next.. http://ow.ly/jkGCz

Check out this story of a man who was wrongfully convicted of child s*x abuse in 2000 and finally exonerated last week. DNA evidence eventually freed him, but if the prosecution had thoroughly tested the evidence for his DNA before going to trial, he never would have wound up in prison in the first place. http://ow.ly/iSvbv

The US Supreme Court is expected to decide later this year about the constitutionality of performing DNA tests on those suspects who are arrested by the police. This goes above and beyond the DNA testing that is already being done once a defendant has been convicted. Many people feel that this is an invasion of privacy and the rights of the suspect -- how do you feel about it? http://ow.ly/i4GKI

The Supreme Court will soon decide what one justice called its most important criminal procedure case in decades: whether to allow police to take...
