‼️USCIS POLICY UPDATE: Neighborhood Investigations Resume for Naturalization Applicants
USCIS has issued a new policy alert reinforcing its authority to conduct neighborhood investigations as part of the naturalization examination process under INA § 335(a).
As part of these investigations, USCIS officers may seek to verify information regarding an applicant’s residence, employment, family history, and good moral character through community contacts, which could include neighbors, landlords, employers, or others with relevant knowledge.
While this policy does not change the underlying eligibility requirements for naturalization, it may mean additional verification in some cases and potentially a more thorough review of information provided in Form N-400.
Applicants should make sure the information in their application is accurate and consistent with their previous immigration filings and records.
