Registration is open for the symposium, Secrecy and Transparency in Civil Litigation, cosponsored by NCJI and Stanford Law School's Deborah L. Rhode Center on the Legal Profession on May 1–2, 2026 at Stanford Law School (with live webcast available).
Through seven panels and six original papers, a faculty of judges, scholars, attorneys, and policymakers will explore the legal, institutional, and normative dimensions of secrecy and transparency in the civil justice system. As courts grapple with the sealing of records, protective orders, confidentiality agreements, and public access to proceedings, scholars and practitioners alike are reassessing the balance between privacy, efficiency, and democratic accountability in civil litigation. Gretchen Carlson of Lift Our Voices will deliver the keynote address.
The symposium is free to judges and courts, academics and law students, and public officials and nonprofits. CLE credits will be offered. Learn more and register at https://conferences.law.stanford.edu/secrecy-transparency-2026/.
