Justice for Baby Erick

A federal jury has awarded $9 million to Sumoyyah Lee after finding that Los Angeles County, through DCFS, violated the Fourteenth Amendment, resulting in the death of her 7-month-old son, Erick A. Lee (“Baby Erick”), while in foster care.

This verdict held the County accountable for systemic failures and found negligence by a DCFS social worker—sending a clear message that children’s constitutional rights do not disappear when the government takes custody.

May Jung LLP, alongside Lear Werts, LLP and Orange Law Offices, was honored to represent Mrs. Lee in this fight for justice.

“This verdict will not bring my baby back,” Mrs. Lee said, “but I hope it forces changes so that no other family has to suffer the way we have.”

🕊️ Baby Erick deserved protection.
⚖️ Accountability matters.

🚨 Big Win for Accountability! 🚨

The D.C. Court of Appeals has rejected the District’s attempt to change its earlier ruling, standing strong for justice. This is a huge victory for six Black women who fought back after their dreams of owning homes were destroyed by failures from the District, its agents, and contractors.

💥 Why this matters: The Court’s decision makes it clear that the District of Columbia is subject to the same consumer protection laws as everyone else. Despite the District’s efforts to change the law to avoid responsibility, the courts upheld what’s right.

This ruling is a step towards real change and a reminder that no one is above the law.

We’ll keep fighting for the justice these women deserve, and for everyone who believes in fairness and accountability.

June 19 is World Sickle Cell Day

If You Took Oxbryta and Got Sick — You’re Not Alone

World Sickle Cell Day is a time to raise awareness, support patients, and advocate for better treatment. For some, however, Oxbryta—a drug intended to help those living with sickle cell disease—may have caused more harm than good.

If you or a loved one took Oxbryta and experienced:
• Worsening symptoms or extreme fatigue
• Heart or organ complications
• Unexpected hospitalizations
• Side effects that were not disclosed

You may be eligible to take legal action and pursue compensation.

Myth: Only “big cases” need lawyers.
Fact: Every case matters — especially yours.

Insurance companies and corporations count on you thinking your injury is “too small” to fight.

But here’s the truth:
✅ Minor injuries can lead to long-term issues.
✅ Small claims can still come with big legal consequences.
✅ Without a lawyer, you may be settling for far less than you deserve.

Don’t downplay your pain. Don’t go it alone.
If you’ve been hurt you need someone in your corner.

Fred Korematsu took on the U.S. government—and history remembered.

When Japanese Americans were unjustly incarcerated during WWII, Fred said no.
He challenged the injustice all the way to the Supreme Court.

His name is now taught in law schools, but his courage started with one man refusing to be erased.

Silence never changed history. Speak up. Share his story.

For decades, chemical hair relaxers were marketed to Black women and girls as a ticket to “beauty,” “professionalism,” and “acceptance.”

But what they didn’t tell us?

Those same products were linked to uterine cancer, fibroids, infertility, and other reproductive issues.

The worst part?

They knew.

Research showed the risks. The ingredients raised red flags. And they stayed silent anyway.

At May Jung Law, we’re fighting alongside the women leading the charge.

When corporations value profit over people—especially Black women—there must be consequences.

If you’ve been harmed by long-term relaxer use, you deserve answers.

You deserve support.

You deserve to be heard.
