Imagine this:
It’s 2055, and your grandchildren are sorting through your things when they find a whole stack of handwritten love letters addressed to Grandma.
Naturally, they assume they’re from Grandpa.
Except…the handwriting looks different. The dates are interesting. And one begins, “I still think about that night…” 👀
And just like that, Grandma’s perfectly respectable family history has become a limited-series drama.
Funny? Absolutely.
But it also gets at something we think about a lot at Artifcts.
We save birthday cards, letters, ticket stubs, postcards, calendars, invitations, notes, and other bits of paper because they connect us to people, places, moments, and versions of ourselves we don’t want to lose.
The trouble is, the paper doesn’t always tell the whole story.
So before you decide whether to keep or toss something, ask:
What am I actually trying to remember?
Maybe it’s the handwriting. Maybe it’s who gave it to you. Maybe it’s the trip, the relationship, the concert, or the person you were at the time.
Preserve that first.
Then decide what really needs to stay in the storage bin.
Because the real keepsake was never just the paper.
It was you, then. 💚
