As we observe Memorial Day, I pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice protects the freedoms we cherish, and I am grateful for the chance to reflect on their legacy. My office will be closed on Monday, May 25th, in observance of the holiday. I’ll resume normal hours on Tuesday, May 26th and respond to messages as soon as I return. I wish you a meaningful and reflective Memorial Day.

If something unexpected happened tomorrow — who would care for your horses?

Estate planning for equine owners isn’t just about assets. It’s about:
• Care instructions
• Funding for ongoing maintenance
• Business succession
• Farm transition planning

I focus on equine small business and estate planning to ensure your horses and your legacy are protected.

When your child turns 18, you no longer have automatic access to help with their medical or financial decisions — even during an emergency. Having the right life planning documents in place gives your family peace of mind and ensures your young adult is protected. Ensure your child prepares and properly executes the documents they need as they step into adulthood.

With National Senior Fraud Awareness Day coming up on May 15, I am sharing a few reminders to help our Hunt Country community stay protected from the most common scams we see. • Tech support scams pretending your device has an issue • Government or Medicare impersonators asking for personal information • Family impostors claiming a loved one is in urgent trouble • Prize and lottery scams requesting fees to claim “winnings” • Romance and investment scams built on emotional manipulation ❤️‍🩹 Staying alert is one of the strongest forms of protection. If you or a loved one ever feels unsure about a message or request, trust your instincts and don't be afraid to ask loved ones for help.

May is Older Americans Month, and CLR Law, PLLC is taking a moment to highlight a few simple steps you can take right now to keep your life, legacy, and estate planning on track.

Here are a few ways to stay proactive:

• Get your key documents organized so trusted family members know where to find your Will, trusts, insurance policies, property records, and account details. Keeping everything accessible makes a world of difference.

• Take inventory of your financial, physical, and digital assets to ensure your estate plan reflects everything you value, and make necessary updates.

• Outline your memorial or final arrangement preferences to give loved ones clarity when they’ll need it most.

These small steps can provide peace of mind and help ensure your wishes are honored.

May is Older Americans Month, and I am taking the opportunity to spotlight a few essential ways I support aging individuals and families with thoughtful life and legacy planning. Living trusts can help ensure your wishes are honored while simplifying the transfer of assets and reducing the need for probate. They also allow for smooth management of your affairs if you become incapacitated. Powers of attorney let you choose trusted decision-makers for health care and financial matters, helping prevent delays or court involvement when timely action matters most. Advance health care directives document your preferences for medical treatment and work hand in hand with your health care power of attorney. Keeping these aligned helps ensure your voice is heard even if you cannot speak for yourself. These tools provide clarity and peace of mind for you and your loved ones.

While major assets often get the most attention, personal items like heirlooms, furniture, or jewelry can hold deep sentimental value and lead to conflict if not clearly addressed. Without a clear plan:

🔹Unclear distribution can create confusion between family members.
🔹Sentimental items may not end up with the right person.
🔹Small oversights run the risk of creating emotional rifts within your family.

It can be a good idea to use a Personal Property Memorandum to clearly outline who should receive which items, while keeping your Will (and Trust if you have one) easy to update.
