🚨 Attention Rhode Island Verizon Customers! 🚨

🔹 Eligibility Alert: If you're a current or former Verizon wireless or data customer who had service between Jan. 1, 2016, and Nov. 8, 2023, you might be eligible for a one-time payment of up to $100 as part of a $100 million class action settlement.

🔸 Why This Matters: This settlement addresses a lawsuit filed in New Jersey accusing Verizon of not disclosing certain administrative fees - which they deny, asserting their right to increase these fees.

🔹 No Need to Wait: Initially, affected customers were to wait for a “Notice ID” and “Confirmation Code” via email or letter. Now, you can apply with just your name and Verizon account number.

🔸 Important Dates:

File Your Claim: Don't miss out! Claims must be filed by April 15.
Opt-Out Deadline: If you wish to opt out of the settlement, do so by Feb. 20 with a signed request mailed to the settlement administrator.

🔹 Settlement Details:

The payment amount depends on the duration of your Verizon customer status.
Verizon will still attempt to contact eligible customers with further details.
Remember, if you don’t claim by April 15, you forfeit the right to sue Verizon over these issues.

"Furthermore, Rhode Island health officials agreed to alter guidance to public schools, clarifying that “there is not now and will not be a ‘mask mandate’ for students, even those who test positive for COVID,” who were exposed to the virus, or show Covid-like symptoms. In exchange for these actions, the plaintiffs have agreed to drop their lawsuit."

“This was never a case about parents looking for money. We just wanted the state to follow the regular normal regulatory procedure,” Piccirilli told The Federalist. “We’re hoping to really create a record that people will be able to look to in the future, so if they ever try to do something like this again, we’ll be able to say, ‘No, the evidence shows that [mandatory masking] doesn’t work.'”

RI parents and the state agreed to a deal that commits RI health officials to hold public hearings on the efficacy of school mask mandates.

📚👨‍⚖️ Attorney Carl P. DeLuca, Esq., delves into the complexities of marital issues in later life, a phenomenon increasingly common as evidenced by rising "gray divorce" rates. Understanding these challenges is crucial for navigating and potentially revitalizing long-term relationships.

**Key Factors Influencing Marital Strains In Long Marriages**:

1. **Empty Nest Syndrome**: Once children leave home, underlying marital issues may surface, prompting reevaluation of the relationship.
2. **Shift in Power Dynamics**: With societal changes, more women now have the financial independence to leave unsatisfactory marriages.
3. **Increased Lifespan**: Longer, healthier lives lead individuals to reassess their marital happiness post-retirement.
4. **Financial Challenges**: Persistent financial stress can significantly strain a marriage.
5. **Diminishing Social Stigma**: The reduced societal stigma around divorce encourages more couples to consider it.
6. **Mental Health**: Long-term, undiagnosed mental health issues can adversely affect relationships.

**Seeking Assistance**:

- **Couples Therapy**: A step towards repairing marital issues.
- **Discernment Counseling**: For couples unsure about staying together or separating, especially when one partner is inclined towards preserving the relationship

**Contemplating Divorce**:

Divorce can significantly disrupt lives. Consider the following:
- **Envision the Future**: Think about post-divorce life, including financial and retirement plans.
- **Children’s Well-being**: Adult children are also affected by their parents' divorce.
- **Social Support**: Stay connected through friendships and support groups during transitional times.

Navigating the complexities of a blended family is no small feat, particularly for fathers striving to create a harmonious and loving household. Here are six essential tips:

1. **Patience is Key**: Building strong relationships in a blended family is a gradual process. It requires dedication, effort, and above all, patience.

2. **Craft a Blended Family Contract**: Often associated with divorce, parenting plans can also be instrumental in blended families. These plans help address potential conflicts and set clear guidelines on various aspects like discipline, finances, technology use, chores, and family routines.

3. **Pre-emptive Discipline Strategies**: Discipline can be a contentious issue in blended families. It's imperative to establish who holds authority and to discuss treating all children equitably. Leading by example in adhering to household rules is also vital.

4. **Consistency and Routine**: Regular routines provide a sense of stability for children. Engaging in open communication and valuing each family member's opinion, especially teenagers, is key to building positive relationships.

5. **Foster Individual Connections**: Strengthening the blended family unit requires nurturing individual relationships within it. Spend quality time in pairs through activities, meals, and everyday interactions to build these connections.

6. **Gradual Introduction of Changes**: Introducing new family members can be challenging. Maintain certain routines between biological parents and children initially, and gradually involve new members to ease the transition.

Angelina Jolie alleged the judge who oversaw her child custody case was “biased” and favored her ex-husband Brad Pitt— and now the “Maleficent” actress is using her experience to push legislation to check “corrupt” officers of the court.

In a two-page letter dated Sept. 29 and obtained by The Post, the actress and former Goodwill Ambassador urged California Gov. Gavin Newsom to support “Piqui’s Law,” which would require domestic violence training for judges, mediators and other court professionals on the effects of child abuse and trauma.

A source close to Jolie told The Post the actress is pushing for the legislation after the trauma she encountered under Los Angeles Judge John W. Ouderkirk, who refused to allow her kids to testify about domestic violence they experienced at the hands of their father.

In Rhode Island, a parent may terminate the parental rights of the other parent under very specific circumstances. Usually, a termination case is started by DCYF and it is widely believed that only DCYF may start these cases, but that’s not true. It can be done by a parent and I've been doing it for parents for over 20 years.

If the absent parent fails to visit or support their child, the parent with placement may petition the court to terminate the absent parent’s parental rights, if a new spouse or one of the child’s grandparents will adopt the child in the terminated parent’s place.
