Facebook-land, as many of you have heard, the child tax credit will be issued to you in a monthly "advance" for the last half of this tax year. I know there is still a lot of confusion surrounding this credit but the IRS has the Child Tax Credit Update Portal website available for your use. Please visit www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/child-tax-credit-update-portal for more information about your eligibility, to view advance payments, or to unenroll from receiving advance payments.

We urge you to review your tax planning in order to ensure you are not surprised at the end of the year. A common oversight we are seeing is an individual who completed their W-4 form with their employer to claim dependents throughout the year by having less federal income tax withheld from his/her paychecks. This means you could be getting a reduction in your withholding and a monthly advance on the child tax credit for the same children. This means your refund at the end of the year will possibly be greatly reduced or you might even owe.
