•Leave the fireworks to the professionals and keep a safe distance from the launch site.

•Monitor kids with fireworks or let them use safer fireworks like party poppers or snaps.

•Stay hydrated.

•Identify a designated driver that will stay sober and be responsible for driving.

•Take breaks in shaded areas to cool down.

School zone enforcement cameras at Matt Arthur Elementary (Highway 127) and Perry Middle (Perry Parkway) began enforcing school zone speed limits today.

This begins the 30-day warning period (for these locations only). Those speeding in the designated enforcement areas will receive warning notices in the mail.

Please note that cameras ONLY operate during the times marked on the posted street signs. The cameras DO NOT operate throughout the entire school day.

The cameras DO NOT operate on weekends, school holidays, or during summer break.

Cameras will operate during the summer break ONLY IF a school hosts a summer school. It is treated as though the school is open and RedSpeed is used during the posted school zone hours.

The cameras will target speeders exceeding more than ten (10+) miles per hour over the posted speed limit in school zones.

I get a lot of calls from seniors regarding timeshares and attempts to sell these types of properties. I am not an expert and have no idea how it is done.

I do know how it is not supposed to happen. Any company that offers to open a credit card for you so that they can sell your timeshare is bogus and is a scam. Most real estate transactions involve a commission paid to realtors once the property is sold. Opening a credit card to pay a five-figure ($7,000+) fee upfront is not the way to do it.

If a business calls you with this proposition, take down the name of the business, take down the name of the agent, and ask them for the location of the corporate office. I have done several inquiries out of curiosity and have found that most of these scammers use office share buildings that make it impossible to track them.

I also advise looking them up on google maps. The last company had its corporate office at the UPS store mailbox. If you have agreed to a transaction and they have taken your money, call the police, make a report, and advise the credit bureau that the charge is a scam.

There are several legitimate businesses that facilitate these types of transactions. If a realtor asks you to pay their commission prior to the sale of the timeshare, hang up and use that block function on your phone.

There wasn't a lot of people nicer than Addison Ford. He was a great person and probation officer working in the Houston County Superior Court.

He was a great father and proud supporter of Northside High School.

He will be truly missed.
