One Paralegals Adventure
Have you ever gotten mid- way through your life and you realize you need to make a huge job change? I did. Mine was industrial accident driven, but yours could be anything else, change in your family, lay-off or other equally ugly things.
Let me introduce myself to my readers; my name is Karen Miller. I hold a Masters in Compliance law and recently received my ACP in family law. I am no different than many of you. I have been married to my college sweetheart for 38 years and have adult sons. They have always been a major consideration in my life. My husband is a mechanical engineer for the Department of Defense and me and the boys always followed his career across this great country.
In 2011 I made a decision to change paths completely. I had a lifelong dream of being a paralegal! I began a paralegal online course and realized that I should have done this a long time ago. It was the most awesome adventure that I have ever been on. I was still working as a grocery reset manager and traveling a lot. One other thing was also happening to me. My left arm was in extreme pain and I was not able to lift it more than a few inches. It made it hard to work and the constant pain was wearing. To make a long story short….. I had torn my rotator cuff and had lots of arthritis in the shoulder. God has a way of getting my attention! I quit the job and devoted all my time to my schooling and shoulder surgery. After recovery I from the shoulder surgery I was able to concentrate on my studies totally. I am saying this to my readers to say this, do what you love! The prior job was hard on my body and I was not getting rich in a hurry! I continue to have issues with arthritis caused by all those years I worked at a difficult physically demanding job that was stressful.
Why am I telling you all of this? It is to introduce myself to all of my fellow paralegals and even some attorneys. It is also to make you aware of my company Miller Virtual Paralegal, I am the CEO, paralegal and do many general paralegal functions. If there is overflow work your firm has I am the one to call! I have experience in Personal Bankruptcy, Family Law, Civil Litigation, Elder Law and Wills and Estates. I am also starting a blog about things that concern us as a paralegal community.
