The “Full Coverage” Insurance Myth – A Message from Ennis Law

Hi, I’m Attorney Trey Ennis and I want to talk to you about something that breaks my heart almost every month in my law practice.

I sit across from good, hardworking people who tell me:

“But Trey… I have full coverage.”

And I have to gently explain that “full coverage” is not a legal term.
It’s not a guarantee.
And most of the time — it’s not what people think it is.

In Georgia, the state minimum liability insurance is just $25,000 per person / $50,000 per accident. That means if someone hits you and causes serious injury, there may only be $25,000 available to cover:

• Emergency room bills
• Surgery
• Physical therapy
• Lost wages
• Pain and suffering
• Permanent injury

In today’s world, $25,000 can be exhausted in a single ambulance ride and ER visit.

Insurance companies often use the phrase “full coverage” as a marketing comfort blanket. But what they usually mean is that you have liability + collision + comprehensive on your own vehicle.

That does not mean you are fully protected if someone with minimum coverage crashes into you, your family or your children.

And that’s the heartbreaking part.

I have seen families devastated — not because they did anything wrong — but because they trusted that comforting phrase without knowing the limits behind it.

Here’s the truth:

If you want real protection in Georgia, you should strongly consider carrying:

• Higher liability limits

• Add on Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM) coverage in higher limits that match your liability limits
(never purchase “traditional” or reduced by UM/UIM coverage).

Those UM/UIM coverages protect you and your family when the at-fault driver only carries the minimum.
