In California, when a person files for bankruptcy, he or she is entitled to exempt (retain) various assets. The exemptions under 703.140 are being increased effective April, 1, 2013 which allows someone filing for bankruptcy to retain more assets. This past July, the California Homeowner Bill of Rights was signed into law to become effective January 1, 2013. Among other protections, Dual track foreclosure is now banned.
