NOT GUILTY! This jury trial hit home. We represented a young veteran who was charged with Interference with a 911 Phone Call, a Class C Felony. He swore up and down that he did not do it and I believed him and so did 12 other Richland County residents; thank you for performing your civic duty. The reason this one hit home is that this young man's mother was a high school classmate of mine who passed away a few years ago from cancer. His mom and I remained in contact up until a week or two before her passing; she was with us in spirit throughout the two-day jury trial. Unfortunately, the mere allegation against him prevents him from reenlisting in the Army as he had planned which appears to have been the alleged victim's motive all along. Notwithstanding, when the jury verdict was read we were both relieved and ecstatic. To my friend and this young man's mother, thank you for looking down upon us.

Covid19 is weighing on the mind's of most. Many are asking: What if I get it? Will I recover or not? Does it matter if I am young or old? What information do I believe? These are important questions, but there are other questions that do not get asked enough: Who will will care for my children if they are left without parents? Will my spouse get the house without the necessity of going through expensive probate? Who will get my property if I die? It's an uneasy thing to think about one's own death. However, everyone needs to plan for the inevitable, if not for their own sake, for the sake of their children, other family and friends. Greetings FB Friends, Followers, Likers and Haters!! Here's today's legal insight. Sometimes it is easy to let our emotions take control when we receive news that a individual has been charged with a crime. If it is a family member, we may be inclined to say "no way!" If it is some we do not know or that we know but dislike, the the assumption is that the person charged is "guilty as hell." We would all do well not to jump to conclusions and let things play out in court. After-all, the next time someone is wrongly charged it could be you or a very close family member.
