We are excited to continue growing as a firm, and to announce that Abby Hilliard is joining the Sheehy firm. Abby will be working with Maria Peña and Spring Thummel in the Family Law practice.

Abby attended undergrad at Texas A&M before attending Baylor Law School. While in law school, Abby interned for the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office in the Child Protective Services Unit, where she discovered her passion for family law. During law school, Abby received the award for Outstanding Achievement in Family and Juvenile Law, and was honored with the “Boots on the Ground” award for her dedication to the Baylor Law Veterans Clinic. Her passion for serving others was also recognized when she was named a Pro Bono Champion for contributing over 100 hours of volunteer legal work.

Upon becoming a licensed attorney in October 2025, Abby has continued to advocate for clients with compassion and integrity. Abby approaches family law cases with attention to detail, practical guidance, and honest communication. She has prior experience working in high net worth divorces, complex custody cases, and other contested matters.

Outside of the office, Abby enjoys spending time with her husband, their new baby, and their four-legged family members. Abby also enjoys cheering on the Aggies and her favorite Dallas sports teams, as well as attending Texas country music concerts.

We are welcoming another addition to the firm, John Jack Boozer. John sits for the July bar and we expect he will be practicing as a licensed attorney in the Fall.

John is a third-generation Waco native. He earned his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and his J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law, where he was a student attorney in the criminal justice clinic. During his second year of law school, he also completed a graduate physics program at Indiana Wesleyan University so he can sit for the Patent Bar.

John will be practicing in the areas of criminal defense, patent law, and insurance defense. Welcome John!

We have an exciting announcement - our firm continues to grow. Welcome, Rick Clark!

Rick is a fifth-generation Waco native. He earned his undergraduate degree from Baylor University and his J.D. from Texas A&M University School of Law (formerly Texas Wesleyan University School of Law), where he served as Citation Editor of the Texas Wesleyan Law Review.

Rick has had a stellar legal career, most recently, serving as Senior Vice President and Wealth and Trust Advisor at Extraco Banks, where he advised high-net-worth clients on complex trust administration and estate matters. Rick's extensive experience in trust and estate administration provides valuable practical insight that enhances his estate planning practice.

Rick is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association, and the Texas Bar Foundation. He is also the author of Implied Warranties of Suitability in Commercial Real Property Leases: Physical vs. Non-Physical Defects, published in Real Estate Issues, Vol. 25, No. 3 (Fall 2000).

A dedicated member of the Waco community, Rick has served on numerous nonprofit and community boards, including the Texas Workforce Development Board, Quinn Campus, Inc., and Lake Air Little League. Rick attends Austin Avenue Methodist Church.

Outside the office, Rick enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. He especially enjoys following his son's professional baseball career and visiting his daughter in California.

Congratulations to Maria Peña for securing an appellate victory in the 10th Court of Appeals for her client in a guardianship matter. Ms. Pena worked for two years at both the trial and appellate court levels on this matter. We appreciate Ms. Pena's dedication to her client!

We would like to recognize Celeste Moreno in our legal assistant spotlight. Celeste is a born and raised Texan, who brings many valuable years of experience in legal support. She has provided legal assistance in a general law practice, assisting in civil litigation, criminal and family law cases. As a Spanish-speaking legal assistant, Celeste expands our firm’s ability to better serve Spanish-speaking clients and ensures clearer, more effective communication.
