Welcome to the Safe Exchange Zone located in our Public Safety Department parking lot (920 Estates Dr). This is an area that is under 24-hour surveillance and gives residents and commuters a safe place to purchase or exchange property. We have always had this available, however we would like to once again publicize it for all to utilize. This is even a great place for custody exchanges.

The Arcane Texas Fact of the Day:

Construction of the 134-foot tall Ellis County courthouse in Waxahachie, Texas, required two million bricks, 160 railroad car loads of Texas granite, 100 railroad car loads of Pecos red sandstone (used in trimming the building), and 14 carloads of iron. It was the crowing glory of architect James Riely Gordon, who designed 18 Texas courthouses, 12 of which still stand.

Texas’ Historic County Courthouses shine with grandiosity and ambition. Often politically controversial because of their expense, courthouse projects in the 19th and early 20th centuries lasted years as counties selected architects and builders, quarried and imported materials, then painstakingly ...

J. Riely Gordon designed the McLennan County Courthouse in Classical Revival style with Beaux Arts influences. The lengthy stair emphasizes a dramatic façade with colonnaded front entrance. Atop the dome stands a statue of Themis, Greek goddess of justice.

This 1902 building in Waco is the county’s fourth courthouse. The first, a two-story log structure from 1851, was quickly outgrown; the second had structural flaws, and the third was outgrown again.

During the prosperous years at the turn of the 20th century, county commissioners proposed a $250,000 bond for a new courthouse, which the electorate passed. The building’s granite cornerstone is proudly inscribed, “Built by the taxpayers of McLennan County.”

The courthouse is a State Antiquities Landmark and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
