"🚨 Possible Scam Alert 🚨

Your Chesapeake Police Department is aware of recent attempts of impersonating our officers with phone calls to citizens. We have received several reports where callers are identifying themselves as specific Chesapeake police officers and stating that confidential or sensitive information is needed to prevent some action by your Police Department. 🚨

❌ Please do not provide information to unknown persons over the phone.

👮📲 Chesapeake Police officers do call you from time to time, but seldom is it a true “cold call” and never with repercussions to not comply with the request. Officers often call victims for follow-up, citizens with information requests or in an attempt to return lost property that we have stored.

✅ If you are unsure the identity of the person you are speaking with, hang up.
✅ If you are unsure if the person is a Chesapeake police officer, please call 757-382-6161. Our Public Safety Telecommunicators can verify the identity of the officer AND will contact them to reach out to you.
✅ If it is an officer calling you and you choose to verify their information first, they will understand and it will not impact your services.

If you are contacted by one of these attempted fraudulent persons, please file a police report online at https://www.cityofchesapeake.net/835/Citizens-Online-Reporting or by calling non-emergency at 757-382-6161 to file a phone report"

For most police calls when there is not an offender on the scene, please use the Citizens Online Police Reporting System.

Today, the most needy Americans won’t receive their food assistance SNAP benefits because Senate Democrats have blocked them now 14 times. Senate Democrats, including Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, have voted 14 times to shut down the federal government and not fund SNAP benefits.

Virginia taxpayers are stepping up to provide weekly benefits through the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Program to SNAP recipients, which will deliver its first tranche of benefits on Monday, November 3rd. Get the fast facts below or visit dss.virginia.gov/VENA.

We will not let Virginians in need be used as political leverage.

We just received our first phone call regarding newborn fawns, therefore, it is the time of the year to post this. Deer deliver their newborns in the strangest of places! Residents will find them and be concerned about a newborn deer on their lawn, in their garden, under the azaleas, etc. Most call because they think the fawn is in peril and Mom is nowhere to be found. Well, Mom is actually off feeding and helping to keep predators away. Those who call ask what they should do for the fawn ... Leave it alone, do not touch, move, or attempt to feed it. Here's the scoop. Deer are NOT like horses. They do not have their legs under them immediately and need time to rest after birth. Horses get up and go; that's the sign of a healthy horse. A healthy fawn will curl up, nap most of the day, and move its head. They have no scent, and predators cannot find them unless humans interfere. Mom leaves during the day for 2 primary reasons: to feed, and to keep her scent at a distance from the fawn. Mom will come back (unless something tragic happens to her), but don't expect her until dusk, and certainly don't expect her if humans hover around. If you are fortunate enough to have the gift of a fawn, please enjoy the experience, respect Mother Nature, and let the Mom do what comes naturally. She will move the fawn daily so you may see it in different locations. Thank you!

Virginia Beach Police Officers Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese dedicated their lives to upholding the safety and well-being of others.

Officer Cameron Girvin graduated from VBPD’s 68th Police Academy and was sworn in as a certified officer on June 19, 2020. He was 25 years old.

Officer Christopher Reese was a member of the 72nd Police Academy and was sworn in as a certified officer on July 29, 2022. He was 30 years old.

These officers were not just members of this department; they were family, friends, and heroes. Their sacrifice is a painful reminder of the daily dangers our officers face and their unwavering commitment to serve with honor and integrity.

To the families of our fallen heroes: We stand with you, grieve with you, and will never forget the service and sacrifice of your loved ones. To the men and women of this department: Lean on one another, support one another, and honor our fallen by continuing the mission they so bravely upheld.

We ask the community to keep these officers, their families, friends, and fellow officers in your thoughts and prayers.
