Steve Herring founded Vel Tye in 1993 after serving more than 20 years in the United States Navy. Thanks to his background in the armed forces, he knew the limitations of standard tactical vests and accessories, and set out to develop a vest that would provide better protect

ion without sacrificing comfort or mobility. Research led Steve to VELCRO® and their wide array of domestic-, industrial- and marine-grade products. He immediately recognized the potential and began designing products using genuine VELCRO®. The result was Vel Tye’s patented Hugger vest – It uses VELCRO® closures that allow the wearer adjust the fit to their body and maintain a full range of motion whether they’re using soft or hard armor. And it’s lightweight and provides full torso protection. The Hugger’s success spurred more innovation and expansion. Today, Vel Tye offers a full range of tactical products and accessories for military, law enforcement and first responders. Each Vel Tye product is designed to be the most functional and versatile on the market.
