This is a tough, but important report to read. Behind this headline are thousands of reported incidents and ongoing legal battles that point to deeper systemic issues at Uber.

For a lot of people, rideshare is part of everyday life. In response, the Alliance Against Corporate Abuse (a California campaign I am proud to support) has filed a measure to prevent sexual assaults by requiring meaningful background checks for all drivers, and hold the company accountable for their gross negligence and repeated failures to remove accused drivers from their network. With court records revealing Uber received a report of sexual misconduct every eight minutes, these measures are urgently needed to ensure Uber takes responsibility for public safety.

As Uber races toward a robotaxi future, it's also investing heavily in something less visible: fundamentally reshaping the legal landscape around its accountability when things go wrong and people get hurt because of them.

On paper, this initiative -- which Uber has poured $30 million into -- claims to put more money in victims' pockets. In practice, legal experts warn it would do the opposite: reduce access to counsel, shift costs onto patients and public systems, and limit avenues for people to hold them accountable.

This is worth a read.

In case you missed it, Uber filed a ballot measure in an effort to increase their profits in California at the expense of accident victims. The measure is extreme: no state has passed a law like this, and if passed it would apply to ALL motor vehicle accidents, not just those involving rideshares. This op-ed raises real concerns about what this could mean for access to justice and whether people can get the help they need if/when something goes wrong.

Whatever your perspective, this is a helpful reminder to look closely at what's actually in these proposals - and who they're meant to serve.

This is a good and informational read. Waymo taxis require human help every 19,000 miles. Zoox lasts 60,000 miles. Then there is Nuro, which struggles every 646 miles. Naturally, Uber is putting 20,000 Nuro vehicles on our streets while simultaneously lobbying for immunity from lawsuits when things go south. It is a bold strategy to prioritize scale over safety and accountability. Stay safe out there.
