Did you know Indiana changed how “change of judge” requests work in family-law cases? Effective February 2, 2026, Indiana Trial Rule 76 generally limits a party to one change-of-judge request for the entire civil case: including later petitions involving custody or support. A second request may not be available when circumstances change.

Timing matters. Specific exceptions, deadlines, and procedural requirements may apply, so review the current rule and your case with counsel before making decisions. Chris Doran Law LLC helps families in Jennings County: including North Vernon, Butlerville, Scipio, Hayden, and Vernon: understand the whole family-law picture and plan early.

Indiana's new "Clean Slate" law took effect this summer, changing how criminal records get cleared. Certain dismissed charges and lower-level misdemeanors can now be sealed automatically, while other records may still need a petition, meaning more Hoosiers have a real shot at a fresh start for jobs, housing, and licensing. If you've ever wondered whether your record might qualify, it's worth a closer look. Call 812-979-0107 to talk it through.

After the recent storm damage across the state, Indiana's Attorney General is warning residents about scammers posing as contractors and FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency reps. If you're helping a parent or older relative sort through repair offers right now, encourage them to slow down, verify credentials, and never pay in full upfront. It's also a good moment to make sure someone you trust has the legal authority to step in and help with finances if it's ever needed. Questions about setting up a power of attorney? Call 812-979-0107.

What a great way to celebrate our small-town community! I stopped by the ReLoved! Grand Opening! and enjoyed seeing another local business take this exciting step.

While I was there, I tried the Witch’s Brew drink from Chugg Soda Shop: and loved it! To me, it tasted just like a caramel apple. It was definitely a favorite.

Congratulations to ReLoved LLC and thank you to Chugg Soda Shop for a delicious local treat. Supporting small businesses is one of the things that makes Jennings County special!

Signing a will does not always end the conversation. In Indiana, a will may later be challenged when there are serious concerns about testamentary capacity, undue influence, or improper pressure at the time it was signed.

Warning signs can include:
• A sudden, unexpected change to a will
• Pressure from a caregiver, new spouse, or other trusted person
• Significant mental decline
• One beneficiary controlling the attorney appointment, transportation, or planning process
• A person receiving an unusual benefit while others are excluded

These circumstances do not automatically make a will invalid. Every situation depends on the facts, including the person’s mental capacity, intent, relationships, and the process used to prepare and sign the documents.

Jennings County families can reduce future disputes by planning while capacity is clear, working with an independent attorney, making wishes clear, carefully updating documents, and keeping records that explain the decision-making process.

If you are creating or revising a will: or have concerns about a loved one’s estate plan: early legal advice can make a critical difference.

When school starts, parenting time often shifts from a summer rhythm to a more structured school-year schedule. But one parent should not unilaterally change an existing court order.

Before school starts, try and review your parenting-time order and the Indiana Parenting Time Guidelines. Pay close attention to:

• School-night routines and overnights
• Transportation responsibilities and exchange locations
• Exact exchange days and times
• Holiday breaks, vacations, and summer parenting time
• Procedures for communicating schedule changes

Clear communication can prevent many misunderstandings. Discuss transportation, activities, school events, and upcoming holidays with the other parent as early as possible. Keep copies of messages and document missed exchanges, late returns, or other concerns in a factual way.

The Indiana Parenting Time Guidelines and your specific court order control. Do not assume a change is allowed simply because school has started or a new routine seems more convenient. If your order is unclear or is not being followed, individualized legal advice can help you understand your options.

Classic cars, hometown community, and a great Saturday night in Jennings County!

I had a great time at the Wheels on the Square and Blast from the Past car show. If you enjoy beautifully restored classic cars, friendly faces, and small-town fun, be sure to check out the cruise happening tonight, starting at the Courthouse in Vernon and continuing through North Vernon.

Bring the family, admire the cars, and support the local organizations and businesses that make events like this possible. A community is at its best when neighbors come together: and tonight is a great example.

Thanks to Town of Vernon, Classic, NAPA, and everyone who helped make this event happen. Enjoy the cruise!

If you ever need personalized legal guidance, Chris Doran Law LLC is here to listen and explain your practical options. Call 812-979-0107 or visit chrisdoranlaw.com.
