Not guilty verdicts across the board today in a Class A Felony case with allegations from 1999 that weren't reported until 2020. For reference, back then Bill Clinton was president, Tom Brady was in college, I wasn't even a lawyer yet, and we were all afraid our PCs would blow up at midnight on New Years Eve.

Nice to go into the holiday weekend on a high note- Vancouver City Attorney dismissed a case against my client today (trial had been set for next Monday!) after I pointed out their alleged victim was not only a felon with multiple recent convictions for lying, but also had FOUR active warrants out for his arrest.

The Washington State Supreme Court declared today that the simple Possession of a Controlled Substance statute is unconstitutional. If any former clients have any convictions for simple possession, you need to ask to have it vacated and any fines or outstanding conditions waived.

Washington state's Supreme Court has ruled that the death penalty violates its Constitution. People on Death Row will have their sentences converted to life in prison.

Just saved a client over $9,000 in restitution fees. The Prosecutor wanted her to pay the full repair value of a totalled '94 truck ABOVE what the victim had been paid already, not the fair market value per the established law of damages. The court agreed with us and held that the defendant's insurance payments for fair market value satisfied the property damages.

Domestic violence case today - Felony Taking a Motor Vehicle without Permission, Residential Burglary x2, misdemeanor Assault 4, and Malicious Mischief 3 all dismissed pretrial.

Just won a DOL hearing - client was in an accident and too injured to blow in BAC machine. Cop called it a "refusal". The law disagrees.

I love giving good news to my clients. Assault 2 (DV) with a deadly weapon enhancement was dismissed yesterday after pushing the prosecutor to interview the civilian witnesses who corroborated my client's claim of self defense. Officers ignored their input at the scene, and one even refused to talk to us in a recorded interview to explain his actions. Often the most important trial work occurs before you ever set foot in front of a jury.
