Attorney Tom Higgins provides mediation and arbitration services, as well as general legal counsel I look forward to serving you.

Over 30 years of legal experience focusing on litigation, mediation, & arbitration services. I am a Registered Civil Mediator and civil litigation trial attorney licensed in Illinois and Indiana with first chair jury trial experience as in-house counsel to three major insurance carriers. I have served as the attorney or managing attorney for hundreds of insurance defense cases, which often involve

personal injury, auto/trucking accidents, premises liability (dog bites, slips & falls, etc.),and construction. I am known for ethically and aggressively representing clients, as well as a proven and excellent communicator highly skilled in negotiating, conflict resolution, and client relationship development. You will find I am able to handle high exposure cases from inception to verdict, including jury trials, bench trials, discovery and investigations. I additionally hold the following designations by the Insurance Institute of America:

CPCU - Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter 2003
ARM - Associate in Risk Management 2004
AIT - Associate in Information Technology 2003
AIM - Associate in Management 2002

I also have a vast amount of experience working with individual and corporate clients through my work in small and large private firms in both Indiana and Illinois (Downtown Chicago). I am proud to have opened my own law office recently in Valparaiso, IN where I continue to offer litigation, Mediation, & Arbitration services, as well as general legal counsel for a variety of legal areas, such as Wills, Probate, Collections, Real Estate, and Personal Injury. My goal is to provide superior service to my clients, with an emphasis on building trust and long-lasting relationships for many years to come. While the office is open during typical work hours, I am willing to accommodate clients who are limited to evening or weekend hours.

Happy Constitution Day! The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land. The Bill of Rights, which all Americans should be familiar with, is the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution. It spells out Americans’ rights in relation to their government. It guarantees civil rights and liberties to the individual—like freedom of speech, press, and religion. It sets rules for due process of law and reserves all powers not delegated to the Federal Government to the people or the States. And it specifies that “the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.” Visit the National Archives to learn more.
