I've always been fascinated by the stories people used to tell.

One that has stuck with me for years is that having a willow tree on your property brought bad luck to the home.

At first, it sounds like nothing more than an old superstition...

But then I started wondering...

What if people weren't talking about magic at all?

What if they were simply noticing patterns long before we understood the science?

Willow trees are beautiful but they're also relentless. Their roots are always searching for water. They'll slip into the tiniest crack in a sewer line, wrap themselves around underground pipes, and quietly keep growing. Over time, that can lead to broken plumbing, drainage issues, foundation problems, water intrusion, and even mold.

Imagine living hundreds of years ago with no engineers or home inspectors. Your family is healthy. A willow tree is planted near the house. A few years later, the pipes fail, the basement is damp, everyone starts getting sick, and the home slowly falls apart.

Wouldn't you call it bad luck?

Maybe that's how so many of our old superstitions began—not from fantasy, but from generations of people paying attention to the world around them.

I think there's something beautiful about that.

As a Realtor, I spend a lot of time looking at homes, but I'm just as fascinated by the stories they carry. Sometimes the folklore and the facts aren't as far apart as we think.
