I’ve received several calls, as have my friends, from someone claiming to be from the Smith County Sheriff’s Office regarding a Federal Jury Summons for which I did not appear. It’s a scam. Always hang up and call the office they are purporting to be calling from to verify.

This week, Smith County Pre-Trial Services Department employees have received several calls about a scam going around.
The caller says they work for Pre-Trial Services and attempt to collect a fee to bond someone out of jail.
No Smith County department will ever call and demand money over the phone. If you ever get a call like this, simply hang up. If you’re not sure if it is legit, hang up and call the Smith County office they are claiming to be from.

It's time to highlight another local organization for ! Christina Davis is one of our shareholder attorneys. She has chosen the Smith County Bar Foundation. Here's what she has to say about this worthy organization. . The Smith County Bar Foundation is the charitable arm of the Smith County legal profession, which provides legal resources and education to the community. Supporting the Smith County Bar Foundation provides funding for many community outreach projects, including:

People's Law School -a free event, open to the public, that provides information on a variety of legal topics and issues in English and Spanish;
Scholarships for high school or returning to school students, pursuing degrees in law enforcement or legal studies;
Children and Courts opportunities - most visits to the courthouse are stressful times. The SCBF works to make the environment friendlier for kids through the provision of books, crayons, etc., as well as supporting other programs that contribute to children's wellbeing, such as a Federal Courthouse tour and 4th grade mock trials at the Smith County Courthouse;
Mock Trial competition for high schools in the Region 7 education district;
Constitution Day programs that educate on and bring awareness to the incredible document that is the US Constitution;

It's time to highlight another amazing organization in honor of ! Today our E-filer, Gabby, would like to highlight the Caldwell Zoo. She said, “The Caldwell Zoo has always felt like more than a place to see animals- it’s where my mother got her first job. Where my great-grandmother would take me over the summer when I’d visit Tyler. My childhood laughter still echoes at the zoo and my family memories live on here.”
