We all know curb appeal is a priority. Southerners are known for their kindness and hospitality. Here’s some ideas for improving curb appeal and creating a lasting impression of southern charm:
1. Welcoming Porches
If your house has porch, maximize the space with a welcoming appearance and create an area of living space outside. Arrange seating areas for neighbors to gather, and use pops of colors with pillows and area rugs.
2. Porch Swings
We always gathered on my grandmothers front porch and were always fighting for a spot on the porch swing. All throughout the years we have taken family pictures on the porch swing during Christmas and Thanksgiving. Her porch swing has many years of memories connected to it.
3. Hanging Ferns
Ferns are a distinctly southern plant and thrive in our hot, humid climate. They always noticeable when they are hanging above the porch railing.
4. Window Boxes
If you don’t have room for hanging baskets, install window boxes to fill with beautiful flowers and plants. Not only do they create curb appeal, but they’re pretty to look at from the inside, too.
5. Colorful Pots
If you don’t have a front porch or a place to put window boxes, use colorful pots. You can place them on either side of your front door, steps, or sidewalk. Buy colorful pots and use contrasting colors for the blooming annual. Keep it simple, and remember to coordinate with the exterior colors of your home.
6. Windows/ Shutters
Shutters frame the windows and provide added detail. Make sure the paint color of your shutters adds personality and interest to your home’s exterior.
7. Bold Front Door
Painting your front door is not a significant financial investment. Going bold is fun and can work on any house. Remember your front door pulls everything together. Have fun with it, but use coordinating colors with your shutters and exterior of your home.
8. Brick and Siding Color
Speaking of home exterior colors, brick and siding can always be painted. If you don’t like the current colors, you can always update them with a better color. Don’t forget to take your roof color into account because it’s a major portion of your home’s overall appearance.
