Schools have a responsibility to protect the children entrusted to their care.

This one is really close to home for me, both as a mom and as a lawyer.

One of my biggest fears as a mother is that my child could experience something harmful and be too afraid, embarrassed, or confused to tell me.

That is why I believe so strongly in talking to our children, even when the conversations are uncomfortable.

Talk to your kids about personal boundaries, safe and unsafe behavior, and what to do if someone makes them uncomfortable. Most importantly, remind them often that they can always come to you, they will be believed and heard, and they will never be in trouble for telling you something that happened.

These conversations do not have to be one big, serious discussion. They can happen naturally and should be age appropriate. What matters most is keeping that door open.

This issue hits particularly close to home here in Camden County, New Jersey, where a school district is facing a federal investigation related to allegations that reports of sexual assault were mishandled.

As a parent, I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for a family to trust a school with their child’s safety and then feel that something went wrong. As a lawyer, I know how important it is that allegations of abuse are taken seriously, properly investigated, and handled with the care they deserve.

Our children deserve to feel safe at school. And they deserve to know that the adults around them will listen when they speak up.

If you or your child has experienced sexual abuse in a school setting, you do not have to navigate what comes next alone. We are here to listen and help you understand your legal options.

Another professional recently asked me how I cope with handling so many school abuse and child sexual abuse cases, especially as a mom myself. Without blinking an eye, my answer: I jump on my 1,200-pound horse.

When I'm in the saddle, my focus has to be on him. He doesn't care about court deadlines, depositions, or the heartbreaking stories I've carried all day. He requires my full attention, and for that time, I leave the weight of those cases behind.
Representing children who have experienced unimaginable trauma is an incredible privilege, but it also carries an emotional burden. To be the best advocate I can be, I have to take care of my own mental well-being, too.

For me, that means horses, open fields, and the peace that comes with country life. It's where I reset. It's where I find perspective. It's how I return ready to fight for my clients, be present for my family, and continue doing the work they deserve.

Everyone needs something that grounds them.
Mine just happens to weigh 1,200 pounds.

My daughter recently graduated from kindergarten. As they announced her class as the Class of 2038, I couldn't believe how quickly time has passed. It feels like yesterday she was starting school.

During graduation, the students were asked what they wanted to be when they grew up. Her answer made me smile: "A lawyer!"

As families celebrate graduations and prepare for college, there's one important milestone that's easy to overlook.

When your child turns 18, you no longer automatically have the legal authority to access their medical information or make decisions for them in an emergency.

A few simple documents—such as a Healthcare Power of Attorney, HIPAA Authorization, Advance Healthcare Directive, and Financial Power of Attorney—can help ensure you're able to step in if they ever need you.

Time really does fly. If your child is heading off to college or recently turned 18, now is the perfect time to make sure they have these important protections in place.

🎓 School’s Out for Summer — Keep Your Family Safe! ☀️

As the school year comes to an end, all of us at Trimble & Register Law want to wish South Jersey families a safe, fun, and memorable summer break!

With children spending more time outdoors, it's important to remember a few simple safety tips:

✅ Always supervise young children around pools, lakes, and other bodies of water.
✅ Make sure bicycles, scooters, and skateboards are used with proper safety gear.
✅ Remind teens about the dangers of distracted driving and riding with impaired drivers.
✅ Use sunscreen, stay hydrated, and take precautions during extreme heat.
✅ Be alert in neighborhoods and parks where children are playing and crossing streets.
✅ Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

Summer should be a time for making memories—not dealing with preventable injuries.

From our family to yours, have a safe and enjoyable summer break! If you or a loved one is injured due to someone else's negligence, the team at Trimble & Register Law is here to help.

LOW PULLING AWAY
The storm system responsible for yesterday's ick, continues to pull away. Bands of rain continue to push to the NE. As we head toward midday and beyond, the overall trend is for nicer weather. Skies stay mostly cloudy early, but we are moving in the right direction for improving conditions later today.
