Last year, I was able to rescue and restore this 100-pound door that was originally created by the late Tulsa artist and Cuban-American, Pepe Mendez. 🇨🇺

This was the front door of Pepe’s Tulsa home (near 71st & Yale)…The interior of the home was like Pepe’s canvas and included ornate woodwork, stained glass, and the front door which Pepe created from solid wood, polystyrene and copper.

It was said that Pepe was one of the few stained glass artists in the U.S. that could perform the French stained glass technique known as ‘Dalle de verre’.

Pepe passed in 2019.

One of Pepe’s most popular works was completed in 1972 at the Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve in rural Osage County, Oklahoma, where it remains to this day and can be viewed by the public.

Today, Kara and I had the privilege of delivering Pepe’s front door to the museum, where it will eventually be displayed alongside Pepe’s 25’x10’ stained glass mural in the Visitor’s Center.
