Our office is getting a new roof! Unfortunately, it is coinciding with unseasonably hot weather so we are unable to open windows to vent the fumes out of the office. The phones are forwarded and attorneys will work from home for the rest of the day, you should still be able to reach your attorney. We anticipate being in the office as usual tomorrow.

To arbitrate or not to arbitrate? You may want to decide before filing suit:

In a series of decisions, the Supreme Court has insisted that the Federal Arbitration Act requires courts to put arbitration contracts on “equal footing” with other kinds of contracts. These decisions have often favored companies seeking to enforce arbitration agreements, rejecting rules that gi...

It's the time of year for many not-for-profits to file IRS returns (often 990), Oklahoma returns (often 512-E), and to file in compliance with the Oklahoma Charitable Contributions Act (with the Oklahoma Secretary of State). A Facebook post can't tell you exactly what every organization needs to do, but if you're on a non-profit board make sure the organization files the specific filings and forms needed to remain in compliance.

Need help forming a not-for-profit? Schauer & Fettkether law provides flat fee services for entity formations of many types, including not-for-profit entities.

The Charitable Organizations section represents a subsection of our Business Filing Department but has expanded to accommodate the amendments to the Oklahoma Solicitation of Charitable Contributions Act, found in S.B. 1070, passed in 2010 and effective July 1, 2011.
