In March 2023, Ashlen Franklin survived a catastrophic electrocution while investigating a faulted underground utility line, suffering severe burns and the loss of her right arm below the elbow.

Her story is one of remarkable strength, and it has been a privilege for the entire Brewster & De Angelis team to advocate for her and stand by her side.

Richard Glossip released on bond.

Nine ex*****on dates. Three last meals. And yesterday, for the first time in nearly 29 years, Richard Glossip is free on bond following the U.S. Supreme Court’s reversal of his conviction after finding prosecutorial misconduct and perjury by the State’s central witness. See Glossip v. Oklahoma, 604 U.S. 226 (2025).

“It’s overwhelming and amazing at the same time,” Glossip said as he walked out the Oklahoma County Jail with his wife and attorneys.

Brewster & De Angelis is proud to stand with Richard Glossip and to celebrate this extraordinary moment.

Yesterday, a federal jury in North Carolina found Uber liable for the sexual assault of a then-23-year-old woman, marking Uber's second consecutive loss in the ongoing bellwether trials. Our associate attorney Katie Arnold attended the trial in person last week, and here is what stood out to her:

"This was supposed to be one of Uber's strongest cases, yet the jury rejected their predictable defense, which relentlessly attacked the plaintiff's credibility. The plaintiff presented trauma-informed evidence through Dr. Veronique Valliere, dismantling misconceptions about how survivors of sexual assault behave and why their experiences are often misunderstood. That testimony reframed the narrative and helped the jury evaluate credibility through the lens of trauma, not stigma."

Today, a Rogers County jury unanimously returned a $3 million verdict in favor of our client in a wrongful death case.

This trial centered on the life of Mario Chavez, who tragically lost his life on September 30, 2017, during a quarter horse race. Our client alleged that Will Rogers Downs had a duty to maintain a safe racecourse and failed to remove a known hazard in the infield, despite the clear foreseeability that a jockey could be ejected from a horse into that area. Mr. Chavez suffered fatal injuries after striking an electrical junction box, which contorted his body and forced his head and neck into the rail post.

Mario was a devoted husband, a loving father, and someone who took deep pride in his profession. He was cherished by his family and respected for his work, and his absence is felt every day by those who loved him most.

We are grateful to the jurors for their thoughtful service and to every member of our trial team who fought for the Chavez family. Thank you to Clark Brewster, Guy Fortney, Tracy Mosz, and Wynn Rist for your extraordinary advocacy.

May Mario’s legacy live on.
