Want to help prevent food waste and feed people in Tucson?

The Tucson FREEdge is a free community fridge project! FREEdge prevents food from going to waste in Central Tucson by getting that food directly into the hands of the people in our community facing food insecurity.

This project creates an avenue for people to share free food at whatever time of day is convenient for them without the usual barriers.

SALA team members were given a tour of a former boys’ dormitory in Fort Apache, and for a very good reason!

The dormitory will soon find itself revitalized and renovated due to a collaboration between the Fort Apache Heritage Foundation and Roeder and Company. The dormitory, originally built by the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1932, has stood empty since the 1980s.

Especially exciting: The beautiful building is the new home of SALA's Fort Apache offices and will house new office space, apartments, and community facilities.

From left to right are SALA Fort Apache Staff Attorney Rob Current, SALA Fort Apache Tribal Court Advocate Tarilyn Thompson, CEO of the Fort Apache Heritage Foundation Krista M. Beazley, and SALA Deputy Director Jamie Ibrahim.

SALA team members from our Sacaton office made a showing at the Gila River Indian Community Law Day last Friday. The annual event is hosted by the Akimel O’otham Loditha Kud Ki – River People’s Court in Sacaton to celebrate the rule of law and educate the community about the judicial system.

As part of SALA's outreach, Managing Attorney Sarah A. Youngblood (from both our Sacaton and Casa Grande offices) and Senior Staff Attorney Habib A. Pierce-Byrd made courtroom presentations about Orders of Protections and Restraining Orders. The team also had an information table for attendees on how to apply for services.

Here come the judge(s)!

As part of our 75th anniversary this year, we held a special event at the 1891 Historic Courthouse in Florence on Tuesday featuring Chief Justice Ann Scott Timmer of the Arizona Supreme Court.

Naturally, Pinal County Judicial Officers came out in full force!

From left to right are Presiding Judge Rudy Georgini (Pinal), Hon. Reginald Winston (Pinal), SALA Executive Director Anthony Young, Hon. Kyle Ewing (Pinal), Chief Justice Timmer, Hon. Carter Olson (Pinal), and Hon. Delia Neal (Pinal).

Florence is a town with a colorful background of gunfighters, ranchers, unsavory characters, and lawmakers who have etched their names in history, most of whom passed through the historic courthouse.
