Consumers deserve accountability — not corporate immunity.

A recently passed House Transportation and Infrastructure bill reportedly includes provisions that could shield rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft from liability in certain sexual assault and wrongful death claims involving dangerous drivers. Additional provisions may also impact accountability involving peer-to-peer rental vehicles and defective commercial vehicle recalls.

This is exactly why consumers must pay close attention to what lawmakers are doing behind the scenes. Legislative changes can dramatically affect the rights of everyday people while benefiting powerful corporate interests.

We encourage everyone to stay informed and contact their congressional representatives to voice their concerns about any legislation that limits consumer protections or corporate accountability.

Your voice matters. Consumer rights matter. Accountability matters.

At A. Ferraris Law, we believe transparency and justice should never be optional.

⚖️ Consumer Protection Alert: Bank Scams & Your Rights

If you’ve experienced fraud involving your bank account, debit card, or apps like Zelle, you may have important rights under federal law — but timing is critical.

The Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA) is designed to protect consumers from unauthorized electronic transactions, including:
✔ Debit card fraud
✔ Unauthorized bank transfers
✔ Certain peer-to-peer payment scams

In many cases, financial institutions are required to:

Investigate reported fraud

Follow strict timelines

Reimburse unauthorized transactions when applicable

However, there are strict deadlines. For example, consumers generally need to report unauthorized activity within a limited timeframe (often within 60 days) to preserve their rights.

👉 What you should do if you notice suspicious activity:

Report it to your bank immediately

Keep records of all communications

Act quickly — delays can impact your ability to recover funds

Understanding your rights can make a significant difference in the outcome of your case.

📢 Arizona Gives Day: Supporting Stronger Families & Communities

Today, we recognize the impact of Arizona Gives Day—a powerful opportunity to support initiatives that strengthen families and communities across the state.

One important initiative is Respect for Marriage Arizona, which focuses on ensuring that all legally recognized marriages are treated with fairness, dignity, and equal protection under the law.

While marriage equality is currently recognized nationwide, Arizona’s constitution still contains language that could create uncertainty if federal protections change. Efforts like this aim to educate communities, support real families, and promote long-term legal clarity.

💡 Why it matters:
✔️ Promotes equal treatment under the law
✔️ Supports stability for families across Arizona
✔️ Helps build stronger, more inclusive communities

⚖️ Not all debt is treated the same under the law

A new legal article highlights how people owing the same amount of debt can face very different legal outcomes depending on whether the debt is public or private, and whether it was voluntarily or involuntarily incurred.

From credit cards to medical bills, housing debt, and taxes—the law creates a “debt ladder” where protections and enforcement tools vary widely.

The concern raised is that some of the most vulnerable debtors end up with the harshest collection treatment, depending on where their debt sits on this ladder.
