I just received an email from a participant in my first continuing legal education seminar I presented last week. She wanted to let me know she’s been receiving “amazing results” from incorporating what she learned from my lecture into her initial calls from potential clients. She even created a script for her to use on her initial intake calls and she had great results helping her clients identify exactly what they need her help with. It completely made my day! I’m so excited to be helping people as they help people. Loving this work!

Big update — and an important clarification 😊

Recently I shared that I’m launching my consulting business to help criminal defense attorneys grow and improve their practices. I’ve had several people reach out asking if that means I’m no longer taking criminal defense clients.

The answer is I absolutely still represent clients!

I continue to accept and handle criminal defense cases and remain fully committed to protecting the rights of people who need strong, experienced representation.

My consulting work simply allows me to use my 30+ years of courtroom experience in an additional way — helping other defense attorneys better serve their clients. But my passion for defending individuals has not changed one bit.

After over thirty years as a criminal defense attorney, I have started a coaching, consulting, and mentoring business for criminal defense attorneys. While I will continue to serve clients through my law firm, my hope is to begin referring those clients to my consulting clients soon. I will be relying on what has made me successful at this work for so long, as well as my experience as a part time judge since 2015. I have been a business owner since September 1, 2001, and kept my doors open through 9-11, several recessions, the pandemic, wars and market crashes. I know how judges think, I know how prosecutors think, and I know how clients think. I know what makes a great criminal defense attorney and what makes a bad one. I know how to run a successful business. I have gotten to the point in my practice that I have not had to advertise for decades but still attract an abundance of clients. I have won cases all over the State and know what it takes to be successful at all levels. My ideal client is any criminal defense attorney that is struggling with their workload or worried about making enough money. They are highly motivated but lost in the grind of running a practice. What I have found is that most criminal defense attorneys got into this business to help others experience justice, fairness, and freedom. But along the way, they themselves fe​el beaten down by the system, stuck in a grind, and not in control of their own lives. They have become the prisoners of their own businesses. They feel frustrated that the system is against them and that they are not successful enough or ​not making enough money. But the reality is they are making a huge difference​, not just for their clients, but for the World. They reunite families, keep businesses up and running, and give individuals back their freedom. They teach people a better pathway through life. They are training ​others to become better law enforcement officers, better prosecutors, and better judges. Together we help build a better society for everyone.

Going to brag for a minute. I hope you will indulge me. I am on my 30th year of being a criminal defense attorney. I sure never thought I would last that long doing this work. It wasn't until today that I received my first one star Google review. After reading what the man posted, I replied that he surely must be mistaken about my law firm not returning his calls and forgetting about him as a client. I let him know that I am the firm's only employee and as such, I handle every communication, touch every page in my clients' files and know every client on a personal basis. This is the way it has been for most of my 30 years. I had never heard of him but I gave him my number and asked him to give me a call so we could remedy this error. When he realized his mistake, he removed the bad review. So when you hire my firm, you hire me and only me. You will not be passed around between staff. Your case will not linger on someone's desk. I promise you that I will give you the personal service this community has come to expect from me and my law firm. I am also proud to say that I will be sworn in to practice law in New Mexico on Tuesday the 14th. So if you know anyone in Arizona or New Mexico that needs a criminal attorney, please send them my way. Thank you all for the support you have given me for three decades.

New McDonald Law Firm Office all set up and ready to rock and roll. Also have a space downtown to meet with your family, friends, and loved ones who need assistance with any criminal matters. I am also still working with Moore Law Firm on any personal injury, accident, and immigrations matters. Send those to me as well and I will make sure they get handled with care.
