An officer says, “I’m just going to give you a warning.”
That sounds like the traffic stop is basically over. But don’t assume it is.
A warning may mean you aren’t receiving a ticket for the traffic violation. It doesn’t necessarily mean the officer isn’t investigating something else.
If questioning continues, you can ask: “Officer, am I free to leave?”
