AJB Law Firm represents clients throughout the State of Arizona including Pima County, Santa Cr

uz County, Pinal County, Cochise County and Maricopa County. We provide client-centered legal services and resources for those charged with DUI, Domestic Violence, and other Misdemeanor and Felony offenses in Arizona.

“I believe that being a great lawyer is about offering great service to your clients, not just being great with law and cases. People’s lives, not cases, are what is on the table when I begin my work. My job is to connect with a person or family in crisis and relieve friction in a bad situation; care about the problem, not just the outcome; and give the best advice possible.”

Amanda Bynum has over a decade of experience as a skilled litigator and advocate delivering excellent results for the criminally accused.

A misdemeanor and a felony are NOT the same thing in Arizona — and the difference can affect your future long after the case ends.

In this video, I break down what those labels actually mean in real life: jail vs. prison, background checks, rights, and long-term consequences.

Field sobriety tests aren’t as foolproof as people think.
In this video, I break down what the roadside tests are actually supposed to measure, why sober people can still “fail,” and some of the biggest problems with these tests in real DUI cases.

One of the biggest mistakes people make after an arrest? Panicking and creating MORE evidence against themselves.

Recorded jail calls. Social media posts. Text messages. Trying to “explain” things to police. Contacting the other person involved.

I understand the instinct — most people are scared, emotional, embarrassed, and trying to fix the situation. But those actions can seriously damage your case before your attorney even gets involved.

Your case is evidence. Stop creating more of it.

The best thing you can do after an arrest:
Stay quiet.
Stay off social media.
Get legal advice early.

Every day, good people get pulled into the criminal justice system—often at the worst moments of their lives. Divorce, addiction, misunderstandings, or one bad night can turn into a permanent label.
A charge is part of someone’s story, not the whole story. You are more than an allegation, more than a police report, and more than the worst thing you’ve ever been accused of.
Yes, accountability matters. But somewhere along the way, we lost perspective and started treating a single mistake like a life sentence on someone’s character. That’s exactly why criminal defense work is so important.
If you’re facing a charge and feeling the weight of shame and stigma, you’re not alone.

A DUI case starts way before court.
Here’s what a defense attorney actually looks at 👇

Hiring a criminal defense attorney is about a lot more than credentials or cost.
Yes, knowledge matters—but so does judgment.
So does communication.
So does emotional intelligence.
Your attorney is speaking on your behalf constantly—
to prosecutors, judges, court staff, and sometimes juries.
How they communicate can directly impact your case.
And just as important—
are they continuing to learn?
The law changes constantly. The best attorneys evolve with it.
You should feel comfortable asking questions.
You should understand what’s happening and why.
And you should feel like your attorney actually knows you and your case.
At the end of the day, this decision comes down to trust.
And you can usually feel that in the first conversation.

A lot of what makes a good criminal defense attorney never happens in the courtroom.
It’s in the hours spent reviewing discovery again and again.
Catching what’s inconsistent.
Noticing what’s missing.
Questioning what others assume no one will challenge.
It’s staying on top of new case law and figuring out how it actually applies to your case—not just in theory.
It’s strategy. Timing. Judgment.
Knowing when to push, when to negotiate, and when to slow things down.
The best outcomes are usually built long before court ever starts.

“There’s video.”
A lot of people hear that and assume the case is over.
But video doesn’t automatically prove identity.
It doesn’t prove intent.
And it rarely shows the full story.
Most surveillance footage is grainy, angled poorly, and missing key context—what happened before, after, or off camera.
And even if something looks suspicious, that doesn’t mean it legally proves a crime.
Video can be powerful, but it still has to meet legal standards.
And the burden is always on the state.

Most people think a DUI death = an accident.
But in Arizona, some of those cases get charged as murder.

No intent to kill required — prosecutors can argue “extreme indifference” based on the risk.

Not every case qualifies… but when certain factors stack up, everything changes.

This is where DUI cases become serious felony litigation.

Save this so you understand how the law actually works.
