Hello! We hope you had a safe and happy July 4th holiday. Just a quick post about a new Amazon Prime scam. Emails are being sent to Prime members claiming the account will auto-renew with higher prices. DON'T be fooled. They are looking for your banking/credit card information and log in information. Do not click on any links or provide this information to anyone. You can verify your account information with Amazon. Or, call your friendly neighborhood LegalShield provider for assistance.

Hi everyone. We hope you survived the winter and are looking forward to spring. A few legal matters that we want you to be aware of.

The US Treasury has suspended all BOI filings for domestic corporations under the Corporate Transparency Act.. So if you have not filed, you do not have to. But stay tuned.

Are you getting texts from EZ Pass about tolls? Well these are scams. These texts are getting send out en masse in the hopes that one of you will reply with your personal information. DON'T DO IT! Protect yourself and your information. Just delete the text.

Lastly, you may be aware of 23 and Me filing for bankruptcy. This has sparked concerns about your DNA/information being sold. The company has stated that they will not do that, except to researchers. However you have a way to protect yourself from that. Contact your LegalShield provider on this or any of these issues for assistance.

Thanks for reading and we will see you in Baltimore for the LegalShield Convention April 24-26.

Last update on CTA/BOI Filing? Now that the Supreme Court has lifted the lower court's injunction, all eligible businesses that must file their Beneficial Ownership Interest with FinCEN must do so by March 21, 2025. This would be all eligible businesses that were formed and in good standing with their state as of December 31, 2024, and all businesses formed in 2025. Any new businesses formed in 2025 must file their information within 30 days of formation with the state. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact your LegalShield provider.

While we are waiting for the latest Snowmageddon to arrive here in Michigan, let's take a moment to talk about tax season. It's tax time, and it's time for the scammers to make their next move. These scammers send text messages claiming to be from the IRS and want to talk about your refunds or the unclaimed stimulus payments that are being sent out. You are not required to do anything to receive this payment if you are eligible. Don't fall for these claims. The IRS does not text people, and they do not email you unless you have approved that communication. The IRS does not accept gift cards for payments or contact you over social media, and they don't threaten you with law enforcement. Don't respond to these texts, do not open them, and most importantly DO NOT provide any personal information if you do interact with these people. Just by opening the text, you may inadvertently install malware on your device. If you are concerned about a communication you did receive, please reach out to your LegalShield provider for help.

CTA/BOI update. Today the US Supreme Court lifted the injunction of the lower courts, which means that the statutory requirement to file Beneficial Ownership Information with FINCEN is back on. The case will still have to work its way though the appeals court and back to the Supreme Court to rule on the Constitutionality of the Corporate Transparency Act. FINCEN, as of this moment, has not updated its site to reflect this ruling. All qualifying business owners should start filing this information as quickly as possible, as a deadline may be set. But that date is not known at this time. Call your LegalShield provider if you have questions.
