While we are waiting for the latest Snowmageddon to arrive here in Michigan, let's take a moment to talk about tax season. It's tax time, and it's time for the scammers to make their next move. These scammers send text messages claiming to be from the IRS and want to talk about your refunds or the unclaimed stimulus payments that are being sent out. You are not required to do anything to receive this payment if you are eligible. Don't fall for these claims. The IRS does not text people, and they do not email you unless you have approved that communication. The IRS does not accept gift cards for payments or contact you over social media, and they don't threaten you with law enforcement. Don't respond to these texts, do not open them, and most importantly DO NOT provide any personal information if you do interact with these people. Just by opening the text, you may inadvertently install malware on your device. If you are concerned about a communication you did receive, please reach out to your LegalShield provider for help.
