Much like the photo above, and much like starting a new business (or law firm) for that matter, it was a long, hard and often hot road.
I was a senior in high school when terrorist attacked the Twin Towers and the city of my father’s birth, home to my grandfather and his father before him prior to immigrating to the US. But, at the time I was on the other coast. My home is California, I was born and stayed until that fateful day when I joined the U.S. Army and enlisted to train to be an interrogator.
I was subject to rigorous training, more training than the average soldier. Basic training at Fort Benning, GA, Russian language training for 52 weeks at the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey, CA, Interrogator training in Fort Huachaua, Arizona and finally Parachutists Training (Airborne School) again at Fort Benning, GA. Finally, after 22 or so months I made it to my unit with whom I would stay for five years. I was assigned to the 3rd Infantry (Mechanized - thanks goodness because Airborne School and falling out of the sky terrified me :). I would deploy twice to Iraq for a total of 27/28 months, once to Baghdad and then to Iskandariyah (Alexandria). During my service I was awarded multiple commendation medals of various sorts, including a Bronze Star. I am proud of my service but mostly to have served shoulder to shoulder with the bravest men and women I have ever known. Which, happens to include my wife, whom I met while in Baghdad. She was also a solider, though she should have been reprimanded for stealing my heart in a war zone.
We have been married for 11 years or so, we have two boys, Frankie and Nicholas, who keep us busy on a day to day basis. Just as Frankie was born, we left the U.S. Army for a quitter life in Tampa, Florida.
