COUNCILMAN STEVE SHAW RUNNING TO BE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATOR

After many years of outstanding public service, including the Greenville County School Board, the South Carolina House of Representatives and currently as State Senator, Dwight Loftis has announced he will not file for re-election for Senate District 6 seat in 2024.

With that seat opening up, Greenville County Councilman Steve Shaw announced his candidacy and Senator Loftis is placing his support behind him. “Steve Shaw is a conservative leader who has shown his leadership by standing for our rights and liberties guaranteed by our constitution and opposing government overreach. I appreciate his pro-life position and support of family values,” said Senator Loftis.

Steve Shaw is a resident of Travelers Rest and serves on the Greenville County Council. His district runs from Travelers Rest, across Paris Mountain, and into Taylors and the Wade Hampton Boulevard corridor. Shaw said, “the people of District 6 want our state road money used here as opposed to other places in the state. Also, we want academics and not indoctrination in our schools. We want lower taxes, smaller government, the full measure of 2nd Amendment rights, and protection of the unborn.”

Shaw is the first to announce for the open Senate seat. “It’s important to take on this responsibility early and give voters a clear and proven conservative leader,” said Shaw. “My campaign promises are now my accomplishments on Council,” he said. “Public trust is extremely important to me. The voters know exactly what I fight for and what I get done.” He cites the reopening of the Emergency Room at North Greenville Hospital, increased pay for first responders while reducing taxes by five mills, keeping children’s sections in libraries free from radical advocates, and making Greenville County a 2nd Amendment sanctuary as his most significant achievements thus far.

Shaw says that his time on Council has shown him that local governments are generally at the mercy of state control. “Despite the promise of Home Rule, our biggest challenges are clearly at the State House,” said Shaw.

Steve and his small business owner wife Melanie have been happily married for over eighteen years. A lifelong Republican, he has six nieces and nephews and believes in focusing on the future and demanding much more performance from government. “South Carolina should be the small business and education leader of the Southeast,” he said, “we can get there if we simply demand it from our government.”

Shaw is an estate planning attorney with a Ph.D. in land use planning. Among other volunteer community involvement, he served on the Travelers Rest High School SIC, as President of the TR Lions Club, and on the Zoning Board of Appeals. He was elected to Greenville County Council in 2020.

Official filing begins in mid-March of next year and the general election is in November. Shaw will soon follow this formal announcement with a public candidacy ceremony early next year.

This came up as a memory from a year ago, and she has gotten one year better at her work! Hannah focuses on basic will-based estate plans as well as more sophisticated trust-based estate plans. She is excellent at navigating her way through tough probate cases. She always has the sweetest attitude and our clients love her!
