One of the best things you can do for yourself before you ever have an issue with the IRS is create your account with them. It's free and easy(ish) and you can find copies of your W2 forms for loan processing and your tax transcripts. Letters or correspondence for the IRS in case you missed something in the mail. Remember it is extremely rare for the IRS to call you on the phone so don't fall for scamers!!!
Also be certain you are on irs.GOV there are many scam websites out there if you just Google it!
Step-by-Step Account Creation (ID.me)
Navigate to the IRS Website: Go to the IRS "Sign in to your account" page.
Select "Sign in to your Online Account": Click the button, then select "Create an account" on the ID.me page.
Create Credentials: Enter your email address and create a password.
Confirm Email: A six-digit code will be sent to your email to verify it.
Verify Identity (Two Options):
Self-Service (Fastest): Upload photos of your government ID (front and back) using your phone or we**am, and take a selfie video for liveness detection.
Live Call: If you cannot use self-service, you can verify your identity through a live video call with an ID.me agent.
Link to IRS: Once verified, you will be asked to authorize ID.me to share your information with the IRS. Select "Allow" to finish creating your account.
