Congratulations to Ally Comegys, who spent September 25–28 in Chicago at the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers' 2026 Institute for Family Law Associates!

Ally took part in the Advanced Program, which is open to associates who have already first-chaired their own cases. Over four days, she worked through custody-focused sessions, including interstate jurisdiction under the UCCJEA, analyzing custody evaluations, cross-examining mental health experts, coercive control, and digital evidence. She also met in small groups with AAML Fellow mentors.

We're proud of Ally's commitment to growing her custody practice and bringing that training back to our clients in Maryland.

Mary R. Sanders and Rebecca A. Fleming will present at the AAML Maryland Chapter's Annual Family Law Symposium on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, at the DoubleTree Columbia.

Along with Laurie Wasserman of Wasserman White Family Law LLC, they will lead "Jurisdiction Jackpot: An Interactive UCCJEA Game," a session on the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act, which determines which state's courts can decide a custody case when families have ties to more than one state.

Mary and Rebecca are both Fellows of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, along with our partner Christopher W. Nicholson.

On September 22nd, Christopher W. Nicholson and Alexis L. Holiday presented the annual Maryland family law update at the Harford County Family Law Conference. Chris has presented this update every year since 2007.

This year's program covered new decisions on custody when both parents have died, protective orders, child support modifications, and the misuse of AI in court filings. It also covered new laws taking effect this fall, including longer timelines for temporary protective orders and new limits on public access to divorce records.

On September 18, attorneys from TNS Family Law attended the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association Gala. Partner Rebecca A. Fleming and associates Jasmine N. Pope, Faith Zellman Khan, and Alexandra N. Comegys joined colleagues from across the Maryland legal community to celebrate the MHBA's work supporting Hispanic and Latino attorneys, law students, and judges throughout the state.

Thank you to the MHBA for bringing everyone together for a wonderful evening!

Christopher W. Nicholson will join Frank Gray of Jimeno & Gray on the faculty for the Maryland Judiciary's Child Counsel Training on December 21, 2026, at the Maryland Judicial Center in Annapolis. Together, they will present on the Maryland Guidelines for Practice for Court-Appointed Lawyers Representing Children in Cases Involving Child Custody or Child Access.

This free program is for Maryland attorneys interested in serving as best interest attorneys, child privilege attorneys, or child advocate attorneys. Space is limited, and priority goes to attorneys who commit to accepting one pro bono child counsel appointment and have not attended a prior child counsel training.

We're pleased to share that Christopher W. Nicholson will present the case law and legislative update at the Harford County Circuit Court Office of Family Court Service's Annual Family Law Case Management Meeting on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.

Chris has presented this update every year since 2007, walking the bench and bar through the year's significant Maryland appellate decisions and legislative changes affecting family law. We're grateful to the Court for having him back for another year.
